I have been looking forward to this Ashton Memorial Lancaster wedding from the moment I met Claire & Stuart at my home the year before. We had so much in common, especially our love of music and hit off from the get-go. Claire and Stuart loved the sound of a pre-wedding shoot before the big day, so we met in the Northern Quarter in Manchester for a beer and some cool photos. Check their shoot here.
Ashton Memorial Lancaster Wedding
The day of the wedding and oh my days was it hot! It must have been the hottest day of the year, not sunny hot but like oven hot!
Claire and Stuart were both getting ready at the Sun Hotel in Lancaster so I could get shots of them both getting ready before making their way to Ashton Memorial for the wedding ceremony. The buzz of excitement was in the air already. Stuart went to tie some ribbons on the car as Claire got into her dress in a slightly cooler room with her mother. As I paid another visit to Stuart’s room you can imagine my surprise when I saw Alan partridge lying on the bed.
As I pulled up at Aston Memorial I was amazed by the grandeur of the building. We made our way inside and awaited the arrival of Claire.
They had such a lovely ceremony with a couple of lovely readings from the guests. After the ceremony, the newlyweds were greeted with a shower of confetti.
After a few glasses of Pimms and it was then time for everybody to make their way to Lancaster Brewery for the wedding reception.
Wedding Photography At Ashton Memorial
As the wedding party made its way to the Lancaster Brewery, we hang back for a few photographs of Claire and Stuart alone.
Claire and Stuart made their way to the balcony which has amazing views of Lancaster and Morecambe Bay. You can see them in the photograph below of the full building, look closely, they’re there! I joined them on the balcony for a few more photographs. They even had use of the Butterfly House for photos.
Lancaster Brewery Wedding Reception
Time to get that beer flowing. Pull your own pints, and why not! Claire wasted no time pouring herself a beer and it was cheers all around.
The table decor looked fantastic! Lots of personal touches with vinyl on every table. A few more pints got downed and it was time for some great food and some absolutely hilarious speeches. Lots of laughs and a few tears were shed as stories were told.
Great Music & Dancing
As the room was getting set up for the party, people made their way outside the Lancaster Brewery. Hay bails were placed in the beer garden with a bouncy castle for the kids. (cough) and adults.
The Deckheds were the DJs that would get the party going. They use vinyl too which always takes me back to my raving/djing days.
A rendition of the Oasis classic Wonderwall was played for the first dance and had everybody singing along. Everybody joined the married couple on the dance floor as they danced the night away.
What a wedding with such an amazing couple who I now consider friends. Beers soon guys! X

Ashton Memorial
Ashton Memorial is a Grade 1 listed building and was commissioned by Lancaster industrialist Lord Ashton as a tribute to his late wife Jessy. It has been associated with love and romance ever since. It stands at 150 feet tall and it dominates the Lancaster skyline. Ashton memorial has amazing views of the surrounding countryside and out across Morecambe Bay to the Lakeland fells and mountains. This was my first wedding here and I was absolutely blown away. I am lucky enough to be capturing another couple of weddings here this year. I can’t wait to be back!
Lancaster Brewery
Lancaster Brewery is such a cool and quirky venue for a wedding. It’s a brewhouse with a tavern that has real ales. Claire and Stuart really made the venue their own as they allow you to dress the room as you wish. I think this is a great idea as you can put your personality into your wedding venue. It is just minutes away from Ashton Memorial so the perfect place to have your wedding reception after you’ve tied the knot. Plus you get to pour your own beer, you can’t get better than that. I’m back here soon to shoot a wedding and really looking forward to it.
