An absolutely brilliant Alpine-themed wedding at The Ashes Barns in 2020. Yep, you heard that right, 2020! I did manage to get a few weddings in before the madness started. Anyway, no C word today! Really excited to share Sarah & Paul’s Alpine-themed wedding with you all. Two absolute stunners and a perfect, sunny February day.
Winter Wedding At The Ashes Barns
Sarah and Paul love to go skiing, so they decided to bring that love through on their wedding day with an Alpine theme.
I met Paul on the morning of the wedding as he was greeting guests as they arrived at The Ashes Barns. It was like a spring day considering this was the beginning of February.
Sarah was getting ready in the Ashes bridal room which is right next to the ceremony barn. I got a few shots of her looking beautiful in her wedding dress and it was only a short walk to the West Barn for the ceremony.
Paul was a tad nervous, biting his nails stood beside his best man. The nerves turned into pure emotion as he saw his bride-to-be walking down the aisle with her dad. Sarah had to wipe away a few tears from his cheek, I’m sure he won’t mind me saying. What a beautiful ceremony! The way these two looked at each other throughout was a joy to photograph. Lots of smiles and laughter throughout.
They walked back down the aisle together in a shower of confetti as husband and wife.
A Beautiful Day For A Walk
After the ceremony, everyone congratulated the newlyweds in the courtyard outside as drinks glasses were getting filled with celebratory drinks.
We photographed a few formal group shots before I stole Sarah and Paul away for 15 minutes to give them a moment alone to take everything in.
No direction was needed with these two naturals, they were bouncing off each other with plenty and smiles and hugs. We had a little walk together around the stunning grounds of Ashes Barns.
Hammerschalgen & Speeches
We made our way back to the guests playing Hammerschalgen. This is a fun popular game in skiing resorts that involves a trunk of wood, a hammer, nails, and obviously a drink in your other hand. The object of the game is to hammer a nail into the wood with one hit. The accuracy of the hit can become more miss as more drinks are consumed, but great fun nevertheless.
Everybody made their way to the East Barn for some amazing speeches from the father of the bride, the groom of course, and his best man. Time for some food before the evening party!
Wedding Band & Party
We grabbed a couple of shots of Sarah and Paul after sunset as the Pedal Tones set up their band gear. Everyone made a circle around the couple as they had a very energetic first dance, some seriously great moves! They were soon joined by family and friends who partied the night away to the great sounds of the band.
Ahh what a start to 2020! Who could have known what was to come? It feels so good going through weddings like this though and looking forward to amazing days like this again. I can’t wait to get back into it!
