I bet those words have not been spoken many times around here. “A Mexican Wedding at Bolton School” I was absolutely thrilled when Dianelly and Simon got in touch via email and let me know their plans of traveling over from Texas in the states to have their wedding in my hometown of Bolton, Lancashire. Dianelly is Mexican and Simon is actually from Bolton so it all started to make sense. It wasn’t just a case of getting married thousands of miles away and choosing Bolton to be their dream location, as lovely as Bolton is.
Groom & Bridal Preparations
Dianelly and her family that also traveled from over the pond had hired a house not too far away from me and Simon was getting ready at his mother’s home which is literally around the corner. Simon looked dapper in his suit, if he was nervous, he definitely wasn’t showing it.
Dianelly looked absolutely stunning in her wedding dress that her bridesmaids helped her get into.
The Stunning Bolton Parish Church
Dianelly and Simon had chosen to get married at the Bolton Parish Church. I have seen this church from the outside so many times with me living not too far away. However, this was my first time working here. It literally blew me away with its beauty. It looks absolutely amazing inside. The stained glass, the lighting, and just the space and size inside are really spectacular.
Dianelly arrived at the church by car as Simon waited for his bride-to-be at the top of the aisle. Dianelly’s father looked so proud as he stood side by side with his daughter. After such a beautiful ceremony and a few family photos in front of the altar we made our way to Bolton School for the wedding reception.
A Mexican Wedding At Bolton School
When we arrived at the stunning Bolton School we had a walk around the corridors and the hidden library that I have recently started using for photographs. I have shot many weddings at Bolton School and I always seem to find somewhere new for photographs. Adele and the team often wonder which part of the school I am in when they look back through my photographs. I do like to keep them on their toes.
After a few natural portraits of the newlyweds together, we made our way to the arts centre. This is the room they set up for the wedding breakfast and evening reception. The room looked absolutely spectacular. It had a grand, Mexican style, it looked very classy.
They hired a Mariachi band that entered the main room and had everybody in the mood for a fiesta. In true Mexican custom, the Patron Tequila got passed around in cool little shot pots for everybody to down together and toast the new Mr & Mrs Dodd.
Fiesta In Lancashire
I shared a shot of Tequila at the bar with Dianelly and Simon. It definitely warmed me up for the party ahead. The room had been turned around, the DJ had set up his decks for Dianelly and Simon to take centre stage for their first dance. They were soon joined on the dance floor by family members and guests. Dianelly’s parents had an amazing dance together, those guys had some serious Come Dancing moves. Dianelly had the most moving dance with her father, such a proud and tearful moment for him, it was a pleasure to capture.
When Mexico met Lancashire, what an amazing experience I had at this wedding.

Bolton School Wedding Photographer
I am lucky enough to be a recommended photographer at Bolton School and have shot many weddings here. The team are just amazing at what they do and they make sure everything runs smoothly from the moment the couples book their wedding here. I have photographed many weddings at Bolton school and I can safely say that no one wedding has been the same. It’s a stunning building and whatever the weather there are endless photo opportunities. I guess this is the reason why TV shoot so many films and shows here. I have just finished watching Stranger on Netflix which a lot of the scenes were filmed at the school. Our own Hogwarts in Bolton.
